Aoywaan Riverside Thai Cuisine first opened its doors in 2014 as a cooking school and tour company for those seeking a truly unique and authentic Thai experience. Beautifully situated on the Tha Chin river, it offered an escape from the fast pace of Bangkok to those seeking private lessons in traditional Thai cuisine. For quests wishing to travel farther afield,
Aoywaan offered individually curated trips across Thailand and Europe. Soon after its opening, Aoywaan grew to include a full service restaurant, quickly becoming recognized for their bright and clean flavors, highly stylized, elegantly plated dishes, and attention to detail.
The vision and success of Aoywaan comes from it’s founder and owner, Aoy. Having grown up in a large family in the same neighborhood where Aoywaan is today, Aoy recalls being awoken every morning to the sound of her mother’s cooking- the pounding of curry pastes, the scraping of coconut flesh, and the metal on metal sounds of the wok.
The name Aoywaan comes from the combination of her name Aoy, meaning sugar cane and her mother’s Waan, meaning sweet sugar. After university, Aoy led travel groups around Europe before settling in Austria where she fell in love with the colorful and intricate plating and high levels of service at Europe’s top restaurants. However, she soon became homesick for the food of Thailand and began to recreate the dishes she grew up with, making them her own. After thirteen years Aoy returned home and founded Aoywaan to bring her love of food and life to others.
Aoywaan has been featured on many food programs and honored with a number of awards since it’s opening for its distinctive approach to Thai Cuisine. Today, more than ever, it is a destination for those seeking a retreat into tranquility and hospitality.
